Founded in 1995 by husband and wife team Kevin and Sofia, KNS Language Institute in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, is a leader in teaching English as a Foreign Language. Our reputation as a well-established and well-run, multi-campus school, has our clients re-enrolling year after year and puts KNS among the schools preferred by applicants seeking work as teachers of English in Taiwan. In addition to providing English instruction to our students, we are also a licensed Cambridge Examination Center serving the southern Taiwan area.
With so many parents enrolling their children in private English lessons, the language school market is a competitive one and schools come and go. With six campuses and student enrollment numbers increasing annually, KNS continues to grow. Sound management, a pleasant learning environment, and an effective curriculum that gets results have contributed to the development of a school that is here to stay and is one of the most respected and recognized in the city.
Learning English at the elementary and high school levels has become extremely popular in Taiwan, and education in general is very competitive. Parents want to give their children every edge they can and sending them to private language schools such as ours gives them a sound foundation for developing proficiency in the areas of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. To that end KNS seeks to provide an effective and entertaining curriculum that promotes a high level of student participation. It is our hope that each of our students will acquire a genuine love of learning and speaking English that will serve to enrich their lives and strengthen their potential.
Students at KNS range in age from six to fifteen years. They are, for the most part, hard-working and dedicated, taking great pride in their work. The Taiwanese people place great value on education and as such, teachers are held in high regard by the culture at large. Students learn from an early age to respect their teachers and don’t typically manifest the types of complex behaviour problems frequently seen in the North American classroom. Teaching these students is fun and rewarding and is an experience to be remembered.
In order to ensure that our students are receiving the best instruction we can deliver, KNS takes great care when considering new applicants. We are looking for enthusiastic, passionate, lively people, who have a willingness to learn new things and expand their teaching knowledge, who are open to new ideas and situations, and who are up for the challenge that this unique job entails. Teaching at KNS requires a high degree of organization and creativity. Our teachers are hard-working individuals who genuinely love working with kids.
Working in a foreign culture comes with its share of challenges, not the least of which is the language barrier. At KNS, we’ve built a system designed to facilitate smooth communication between teachers, Chinese staff, and parents. One of the most integral parts of this system is the class coordinator. Each of our coordinators speaks English at a high level, which allows them to serve as an effective communication link between you and the parents of your students. Although they are not present in the classroom, coordinators work closely with teachers outside of class, and will know your students as well as you do. In addition to helping with quiz and test marking and providing additional support after class to students who need it, your coordinator can help you with, and advise you on, any difficulties that may arise either in or out of the classroom.
